February 3 and February 5th 2012

Well it is just not a farm day without a rabbit in the office! Yesterday we were snuggling the new little one and today ANDREW is BACK! He is currently in an apple box waiting for a hutch to be set up. This week we look forward to hosting the future producers of “Spiral Foods Co-Op”. This co-op has been gaining interest and members and hopes of realizing the goal of having a food co-op in the Wild West County. For more information about how to help promote the co-op or to become an owner/member see www.spiralfoods. coop
Today you see the return of romanesco. Notice how the heads are not as compact as last week’s. They are growing, branching out and changing. Laguna farm appreciates the ability to send out vegetables when they are ready for harvest to a CSA who wants to support the farm in taking the harvest in a timely manner. If we were to wait another week on sending out this romanesco, we would loose the whole crop, as it would have branched out too much to be sellable. As a result, you get romanesco 2 weeks in a row (hard to complain about that); we get the full value of our crop, and we are all thriving by supporting local agriculture.
Be Well,
Jennifer Branham

In Your Box This Week: From the Certified Naturally Grown fields of Laguna Farm, our “Naturally Grown” salad mix, romanesco, saute’ mix, parsley or cilantro, Japanese or Hannah sweet potatoes from Livingston and yellow onions.

Local Medicine in Your Hands A Celebration of Local Herbal Authors
Featuring Peggy Shafer and her newly published book, The Chinese Medicinal Herb Farm. Saturday, February 25 6:00 – 9:00 PM Masonic Center, 373 N. Main St., Sebastopol $15 (donation)
In addition to Peggy Shafer, the event will feature several local authors!

Valentines Day Gifts: We will feature the art of local CSA members who have created beautiful gifts for Valentines Day. Come to the barn on Thursday to see their offerings!

Donations Appreciated: Kelly always loves new tablecloths, baskets and display items. If you have any that you do not need, feel free to bring them to the farm. We no longer need egg cartons, as we are not producing eggs for retail at this time.

Wanted: The farm seeks a camper shell for a long-bed Toyota pick-up truck. Willing to pay a fair price! Now that the rains have come, we need to protect the cargo.

Sneak Peak into your CSA Box: Both our website and facebook advertize next weeks box contents. If you like to plan your meals and shopping in advance, look in one of these two places to find out what the CSA is planning on providing.

Farm Pick Up members. Notice this newsletter is not all wet and soggy! We are not putting it inside your CSA box. It can be found DRY either inside the walk-in, on the store table or on the blue weigh station. Please grab one and keep apprised of farm happenings or feel free to save paper and read it online!
