Happy Valentines Day! In honor of this special day I would like to encourage everyone to do something kind for your heart. The Mayo Clinic has the following 8 recommendations for heart healthy eating: 1. Limit unhealthy fats and cholesterol. 2. Choose low fat protein sources. 3. Eat more vegetables and fruits. 4. Select whole grains. 5. Reduce the sodium in your food. 6. Control your portion size. 7. Plan ahead with daily menus. 8. Allow yourself an occasional treat. More information on these points can be found at mayoclinic.com. In addition to what you eat and how you eat, being kind to your heart often involves living an active, joyful, stress-free life.
I hope you all find something to love and laugh about this week. Eating the contents of your CSA box covers the suggestions from the Mayo clinic, so you are well on your way.
Be Well,
Jennifer Branham

Satsuma for Sale! We are trying to move through the Satsuma that were brought to us from the Natural Trading Company. If you are interested in bulk pricing, give us a call. We will sell out in the next 2 weeks.
Winter Squash Tips! Have you ever tried to cut into a sweet dumpling squash? Pretty tough! One way to make it easier is by par-baking or boiling the squash for 20 minutes. This makes it much easier to cut into. Some members like to bake the entire squash until it is cooked. The seeds are eatable and when cooked this way are very tasty.
Tasty Tuesdays! On the first Tuesday of every month Laguna Farm is offering “Tasty Tuesdays”. This is a time where we have samples of produce and artisan products for members to taste. Once the fields dry up, we will switch to Tours on Thursday, where we invite members to tour the fields on the first Thursday of the month. While your friends, colleagues and loved ones are always welcome to visit the farm to see what your CSA has to offer, Tasty Tuesdays will be a great time for them to come out.
