Laguna Farm Compost Project
LAGUNA FARM COMPOST PROJECT UPDATE
Hello Laguna CSA Members,
Here is your compost update for winter 2008/2009.

The very first compost pile made with all your wonderful donations of food is finally finished, after about eight months of curing. It turned into a sweet-smelling black soil, or what I like to call black gold!
I want to thank you all for your contributions toward redirecting our wastestream! Did you know that Laguna Farm is the only CSA with a public composting facility in Sonoma County? Pretty cool, I think!
My parents and I work on composting at Laguna every weekend. If any of you are interested in seeing the work and process of composting, feel free to email me at jessica7787@sbcglobal.net or call me at 795-8038, and we can set up a good working compost day!
The Laguna Worm Bin is doing a fabulous job. If you haven’t had a chance to see it, the worm bin is located in the herb garden, right behind the Earthroot’s garden bed. Laguna’s red worms are eating lettuce, pumpkin, and carrot tops, and reproducing well. In the spring I will be dividing the population in half and harvesting nice sweet worm castings. Let me know if you would like to learn how to harvest worm castings and help with this project in the spring.
I wish you all a good holiday season. Keep up the redirection of your waste stream! You are all stewards of this earth, practicing the 3 compost R’s: Responsibility, Redirection, Receive.
Blessings from Jessica, the Compost Lady
