March 31, 2015
Dear Members,
Si, se puede! (Yes, it can be done) is the motto of the United Farm Workers.  This motto was decided upon by founder Cesar Chavez along with Dolores Huerta during a 24 day fast in 1972.
While Cesar Chavez day has yet to become a federal holiday, it is recognized in California.  Several school children throughout the state are learning about this remarkable civil rights leader. Cesar Chavez was an advocate of nonviolence.  He is remembered for spearheading a grape boycott in 1965 that went nationwide in 1968 and lasted until 1978. This boycott resulted in higher wages for farm workers and focused national attention on their plight.
The Farmers Guild, in honor of Cesar Chavez and in recognition of farm worker awareness week will show the film “Food Chains” during their monthly meeting at the Sebastopol Grange Hall.  All are welcome to enjoy the pot-luck, view the film and join in the discussion. Details HERE! I hope to see you there!

Be Well,

Produce Box Contents:
Salad Mix, Parsley, Cauliflower, Chard, Sweet Potatoes, Green Garlic or Spring Onions.
Gremolata

Gremolata (photo on the left) is one of my favorite condiments.  In fact, it is so tasty on pasta, fish, rice and quinoa I often consider it more of a side-dish.

Chimichurri (photo lower right) is another condiment that can be enjoyed in side-dish quantities!  Coming to us from as far as Argentinia, we can take our locally grown farm-fresh parsley and give it that international flavor.  Parsley is rich in many vital vitamins, including Vitamin C,  B 12, K and A. This means parsley keeps your immune system strong, tones your bones and heals the nervous system, too.  So enjoy your parsley!

Juice Box Contents:
Beets, Spinach, Apples, Valencia Oranges, Chard, Parsley.

We gave you a heap of oranges to enjoy this week, so I hope you have some juicy fun.  Oranges go well with everything in your box including:  Beet orange is tangy and sweet, apple orange is a morning treat.  Spinach orange smoothies with a frozen banana is fantastic and orange, beet, apple is darn near a classic!
