As you drive into the farm, you’ll see our new Solar Array. This is a photovoltaic system that will power all the farm’s needs, including refrigeration irrigation, and electrical. We are demonstrating our commitment to sustainable energy produced on the farm with this and other projects, including our super-insulated strawbale walk-in cooler, wind generation, bio-fuel and veggie-oil-fueled vehicles and generators, time-of-use meters, and energy-thrifty farming methods.

Laguna Farm’s New Solar Project

We applied for a USDA grant that would have covered about 25% of the cost to install the photovoltaic system, but were not selected because we are not located in an area that is rural enough to satisfy the parameters of the grant.
